»About Me

Just me I'm Alyssa, pretty much just your average 18-year-old girl with a few quirks here and there that make me who I am.

I have a boyfriend named Adam who doubles as my best friend. We've been together for over three years and it's been fantastic. I love him to death.

Personality-wise, I'm a Pisces, an ISFP, and a type 4. All of those describe me pretty accurately, and I'll admit that it's much easier to point you to a few websites than to think up fitting adjectives for myself. :P

I'm kind of geeky and have been for as long as I can remember. I blame it on my brother, who was a big influence on me growing up. I must have been bored often as a kid because I would watch him play video games for hours at a time. Every once in a while I picked up the controller (or the keyboard or joystick, as the case may have been) myself, and I progressively began to play on my own more and more until now, when it's become hard for me to do anything else (read: I'm addicted). I'm obsessive about stuff like Star Wars, Batman, and Lord of the Rings, which also seems to qualify me as a geek.

Regardless of my deep-rooted love for video games, books are my most favorite form of entertainment. I learned to read when I was three years old and I haven't stopped since. I grew up on Roald Dahl, Louis Sachar, The Babysitters Club, and Goosebumps. Now I'm more into classic literature, fantasy, and sci-fi, but I'll give anything a chance. I hope to take my love of literature even further by becoming a librarian someday.

I like to think I'm an artist sometimes, but I'm really not good enough to call myself one. I'm more of a "doodler", simply someone who randomly draws in her sketchbook. A few of my drawings can be found here, so you can look at them and decide for yourself.

I don't mind going out every now and then, but I'd much rather sit at home in front of the TV with a good book, a blanket, and take-away, in my pajamas. In other words, I'm a total homebody. For that reason combined with my shyness, it's sort of hard for me to make friends. I've found that friends usually demand constant attention, and I cherish my alone time too much. I value a friend who can give me space, and who I can feel close to without having to entertain them all the time.

Politically, I'm a Libertarian. I believe that people should do what they deem best for themselves, as long as they don't harm anyone else in the process. One thing that really gets to me is when people shove their opinions down someone else's throat. That goes for religion too. I believe in living by example, not forcing your beliefs on others.

"To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"I want to be famous to shuffling men
who smile while crossing streets,
sticky children in grocery lines,
famous as the one who smiled back
I want to be famous in the way a pulley is famous,
or a buttonhole, not because it did anything spectacular,
but because it never forgot what it could do."
- Naomi Shihab Nye

"Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."
- John Keating, Dead Poets Society

Penny: "You know, you're too sweet for rock and roll."
William: "Sweet?! Where do you get off...where do you get 'sweet'? I'm not sweet! I'm dark and mysterious and pissed off and I, I'm not sweet, and you should know that about me! I am The Enemy!"
- Almost Famous

"If you go over to someone's house and they have a whirlpool Jacuzzi and they want you to use it, go ahead, man, but if they come by with some chopped up carrots and onions, get the fuck outta there."
- Mitch Hedberg

"I wanna hang a map of the world in my house. Then I'm gonna put pins into all the locations that I've traveled to. But first, I'm gonna have to travel to the top two corners of the map so it won't fall down."
- Mitch Hedberg

"I do not have a psychiatrist and I do not want one, for the simple reason that if he listened to me long enough, he might become disturbed."
